Wigmore Hall, 23 December 2010 at 7 pm

Come and celebrate the run up to Christmas with a cornucopia of seasonal music from Sweden and Britain, when the popular Christmas From Sweden concert returns to Wigmore Hall. Something new, something old, something borrowed, something bold when critically acclaimed Swedish soprano Margareta Bengtson makes her Wigmore Hall debut. In a programme ranging from traditional folk and carols to classical and jazz, the audience is in for a rare treat, which includes a world première by Mats Lidström for cello and piano. Swedish mulled wine and gingerbread will be served in the interval.

Christmas From Sweden 2011 is presented by From Sweden Productions in collaboration with Anglo-Swedish sponsors and partners including principal sponsor SEB, the Swedish Embassy, Visit Sweden, the Swedish Church in London, the Anglo-Swedish Society and Musik i Syd. This annual concert aims to bring the best of a traditional Swedish Christmas to a London audience, and to build on the British awareness of Swedish music established by the critically acclaimed classical music festival, From-Sweden. Join us for a magical evening at Wigmore Hall with seasonal music, mulled wine and gingerbread.

"Mats is one of the most exciting cellists of his generation. His technique is superb, and he is fanatically interested in quality."
E-P Salonen

"Mats is that rare thing, an original musician".
BBC Music Magazine

"...True original among pianists shows his extraordinary range. Everyone in the business seems to adore Forsberg; a true musicians´pianist.."
David Nice, Classical Music

"Bengtson´s Nordic cool may be a million miles from Ella Fitzgerald in style but they both share a gift for putting across the lyric with great feeling, while avoiding the "watch me, watch me" embellishment that many singers use to prove that they´re singing jazz, as if you didn´t know. But Bengtson is also no sluch when it´s time to bust out the scat chops."
Lee Ingals, The Low Down on TLND
